Edward VI Gold Fine Half-Sovereign — Third Period
Edward VI's third coinage period (1550–1553) restored gold to the older “fine” standard after the debasements of his father's reign and the beginning of his own. Coins of this issue are among the more admired of the Tudor gold series.
This is a fine half-sovereign of that third period, showing the half-length figure of the king, with mintmark tun. Catalogued as Seaby S.2451.
Condition
Described by the specialist dealer supplying the coin as about as struck, very impressive and desirable. That is his assessment and it is published here as his, not as ours. We will examine and photograph the coin and describe it in our own words once it is in hand.

Tax
The UK investment gold exemption applies to gold coins minted after 1800. This coin was struck in the sixteenth century and falls outside it, so its VAT treatment is not the same as the bullion coins elsewhere on this site. It is also not current legal tender, so the Capital Gains Tax exemption that applies to Sovereigns and Britannias does not apply here. The position is being confirmed before the coin is offered for sale.
