Gold coins struck outside Britain: South African Krugerrands, Canadian Maple Leafs, American Double Eagles from before 1933, and the Austrian four ducat.
These are not UK legal tender, so while they are free of VAT as investment gold, a gain on them can be liable for Capital Gains Tax. Each listing sets out its own fineness, fine gold content and tax position.
