Twenty dollars in gold, and for most of the nineteenth century the largest coin in American circulation. The Liberty Head — also called the Coronet Head — was designed by James B. Longacre and struck from 1850 until 1907, when Saint-Gaudens' design replaced it. Nearly an ounce of fine gold in a coin that actually circulated, and one that carried a great deal of America's monetary gold before 1933.

How this listing is supplied. This is a Liberty Head Double Eagle supplied by type across mixed years, not a particular dated coin. The date and mintmark — Philadelphia, San Francisco, Carson City and others struck these — will vary with what is on the shelf and cannot be chosen. These circulated, so expect the wear normal for the type. The photograph shows a Double Eagle of this type, not the individual coin you will receive.

If a particular date, mint or standard of preservation matters to you, ask before ordering and we will tell you what we actually hold.
