$20 Double Eagle St Gaudens Head Gold Coin

Twenty dollars in gold, struck to Augustus Saint-Gaudens' design from 1907 until Roosevelt withdrew gold coin from circulation in 1933. Commissioned by Theodore Roosevelt, who wanted American coinage to look like the high-relief coinage of antiquity, and generally held to be the finest thing ever put on a United States coin. Nearly an ounce of fine gold in a coin that actually circulated.
